'Donate' to Charity
You may have heard of Charity. Charity is a nurse/midwife working in Area 23 in Lilongwe, the capital city of Malawi.
Using her own resources, Charity Salima set up a maternal and child clinic in August 2008 called Achikondi Women and Community Friendly Services – the literal meaning of the Achikondi is 'a caring home'.
In this clinic Charity and her team of volunteers deliver between 40-50 babies per month, provide antenatal and post natal care to mothers and babies, run an under fi ves clinic and provide HIV testing and a family planning advice service.
Through her clinic, which is run independent of any Government funding, Charity and her team provide an invaluable service to the mothers and babies most at need.
Since 2009 MUMs has supported Charity by providing a monthly donation to assist with the day to day running of the clinic and the under fi ves feeding centre. In addition MUMs funded a one-off payment for a much needed ambulance to provide transport for mothers from villages to the clinic or to the nearest hospital.
