2013 MUMs Ladies Lunch
The MUMs Ladies Lunch was held on Sunday the 8th September at Norton House Hotel. 180 ladies attended and as always Norton House did an exemplary job.
We made £7500! (including gift aid) which was fantastic, or pantastic as Maria would say.
The ladies all brought with them – pants! Yes pants for the women who have had fistulas and who are in, what was the old Bottom Hospital and is now a revamped (by Anne Gloag) fistula hospital. We were delighted to have founder of the charity ‘’Smalls for All’’- Maria Macnamara with us and she will make sure all the pants get to the women in need. Maria started this charity in 2009. Wearing pants can be a deterrent to prevent sexual abuse and girls won’t attend school while they are menstruating because they don’t wear pants. Maria gives many of her pants to women who have had a fistula repair. These women have to have a catheter in situ for 14 days and they still drain body fluid, how much more comfortable to bear this indignity if you are wearing a pair of pants.
We were delighted to support Maria. Her web site is www.smallsforall.orgRead the full article (with photos)
Welcome to MUMs
The Malawi Underprivileged Mothers recipe book was compiled to raise money and awareness of the terrible plight of the mothers and babies in one particularly poor government run hospital in Lilongwe, Malawi.
